You’ve probably heard the term HVAC but do you know how it applies to heating and cooling your home? It always pays to be smart about your home’s most vital system. That’s why we’ve put together this list of quick facts that you need to know about HVAC.
HVAC is an acronym for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. This covers the different systems used for heating, cooling, and moving air between indoor and outdoor areas throughout your home. Whether each of these heating and cooling components are separate, like using window AC units or combined like having central or ductless AC along with your heating system, HVAC is the term used for the entire system in your home. Your HVAC system also filters and cleans indoor air to maintain healthier air quality and control humidity levels.
Ventilation is the first step. This replenishes oxygen, removes odors, carbon dioxide, and excessive moisture from the home. This happens when fresh air intake comes from the outside or within the home, which transpires in two ways.
Once air is brought inside the home, it is drawn into an air handling unit then through filters to remove dirt, dust, allergens, and other particles. After that, the air is either sent to be heated, cooled or lower the humidity then directed into the home. Central heating and cooling systems do this by circulating it through a network of ducts and registers to different rooms. Other heating or cooling systems do it by pumping it directly into the room or living space.
